Haskell heads to 1-win Avila

? Avila College will be hoping to halt its football tailspin today against struggling Haskell Indian Nations University.

Avila (1-8) opened with a 38-21 victory over Culver-Stockton, but the Eagles haven’t won since, dropping eight straight to settle into the Heart of America Athletic Conference basement.

Meanwhile, Haskell (1-7) also has only one victory – a 26-24 squeaker over Southwestern Assemblies of God U. two weeks ago.

Kickoff will be at 1 p.m. today at Dasta Stadium on the Rockhurst High campus.

Haskell and Avila met for the first time last season in Lawrence, with the Eagles recording a 21-13 victory that wasn’t assured until Brandon Holliwell raced 53 yards for a touchdown with 1:36 remaining.

Haskell concluded its home season last week in bowing to Peru State, 42-14. The Indians’ finale will be next Saturday against Waldorf College in Forrest City, Iowa.
