Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 1, 1907: “The third annual law banquet was held at the Eldridge last night in honor of ‘Uncle Jimmy Green’ who has been so instrumental in the law courses and school here. : With the Union Pacific due to lay off 6,000 to 8,000 men, a number of workers in and around Lawrence face discharge with at least 20 to go immediately. Some 300 have been ousted from Topeka to Kansas City and the Harriman interests have not said why. : Criminal cases are due to occupy most of the attention for the new session of district court here. There are 14 such cases including a serious set of charges involving hog-stealing.”
