Lawrence police are looking for a man and a woman who tried to rob at gunpoint two people early Wednesday morning in the 1500 block of West Sixth Street.

The victims, both 20-year-old Lawrence women, said they were walking home from a downtown bar about 1:30 a.m. when a car drove up to them. A man in the car pointed a gun at them and the female driver threatened them and demanded money.

The women ran to the nearby Yacht Club, 530 Wis., and called police. Officers searched the area but didn’t find the vehicle.

The attempted robbery was the second time the car had pulled up to them, the women told police. The first time was moments earlier when the man also pointed the gun at them and made a derogatory comment, the women said.

An investigation is continuing.
