Lawrence in flash flood watch tonight, Friday

Rain could cause problems in Douglas, Jefferson counties

The National Weather Service in Topeka issued a flash flood watch including Douglas and Jefferson counties beginning at 7 p.m. and lasting until late Friday.

The possibility of heavy rainfall exists overnight tonight and throughout Friday.

A system of thunderstorms developing over east-central Kansas is expected to move over into the northeastern part of the state with expected rainfall of 1 to 2 inches or more possible.

Flash flood watches mean that rapidly developing floods, particularly near creeks and streams, are possible but not imminent in the area.
