Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for May 24, 1907: “Although there has been ‘all kinds of bad weather,’ making prophets offer dire predictions, the grocery stores here have wide varieties of food on display such as rhubarb, beans, cucumbers and such. Much of the materials has to be shipped in, but even so, prices seem fairly reasonable. : An effort is under way in Topeka for a $250,000 monument to the Kansans who have died in service to the country. The G.A.R. is leading the way. The monument would be built on Statehouse Square in Topeka.”
