A five-year plan for federally funded road and bridge projects is up for approval during tonight’s Douglas County Commission meeting.

Projects in the plan are ongoing and updated each year. If approved, the document will be submitted to the Kansas Department of Transportation.

KDOT estimates that about $2.44 million in federal funds are available for Douglas County projects, according to Keith Browning, county engineer.

Replacement projects on the list include:

¢ County Road 442 bridge over Captain Creek just west of the Johnson County line. It is under construction with a target completion date of September.

¢ County Road 1023 bridge over Rock Creek.

¢ County Road 1057 bridge over the Wakarusa River.

Commissioners might modify the plan.

In other business, commissioners will consider:

¢ Accepting a low bid of $553,301 from Bettis Asphalt and Construction for asphalt overlay of County Road 438 between Kansas Highway 10 and East 1200 Road (Kasold Drive extended).

¢ Approving a public fireworks display permit to shoot class B fireworks at 8:30 p.m. June 30. Dean Blevins applied for the permit for a display at 1036 E. 1326 Road.

¢ Adopting a resolution for the city of Lawrence’s neighborhood revitalization plan for the Eighth and Pennsylvania streets area.

These items are on the consent agenda:

¢ Consider approving cereal malt beverage notices to townships for Area Management Corp. for consumption at 1423 E. 900 Road (Marni Penrod); Pipeline Special Event (Wakarusa Music & Camping Festival) on June 6-10 at 798 N. 1415 Road; and Up and Under at 1329 E. 800 Road.

¢ Consider approving the annual review of the county’s solid waste management plan, as required by state law.
