Scavenger hunt closes W@LH’s first year

The GaDuGi SafeCenter and several area businesses will sponsor a scavenger hunt from noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday in downtown Lawrence.

The hunt, called “The Amazing W@LH Race,” is the last event of the year for Wednesdays at Liberty Hall, known as W@LH. The program offers junior high students a place to meet and have fun on days that school lets out early.

Mary Olive Thompson, program coordinator for GaDuGi SafeCenter, said the race is based on the reality television show “The Amazing Race.” Teams of four will use clues to venture to different locations in downtown Lawrence, where each group will have to complete a challenge before advancing to the next location. Participants will receive several door prizes and food.

Thompson said the race should be a fun finish to the first year of the W@LH program. She expects about 40 students to attend.

“I think it’s just a great representation of the group,” she said.
