Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for May 22, 1907: “The new open commencement plan for the university, with invitations no longer needed, has met with great approval everywhere, including across the state. Events begin Wednesday, May 29, and conclude on June 5 at Robinson Gymnasium. The address at 10 a.m. will be ‘Public Virtue and Politics’ by Johnathan Prentiss Dolliver, U.S. senator from Iowa. Chancellor Strong will then confer degrees and the university dinner will be at 1 p.m. in Robinson Gymnasium. : More and more towns are taking action against junk dealers who buy material from youngsters who tear up property to get items to sell for money. Boys will sell material such as metal cheaply and dealers must be prevented from encouraging them. : The base of supplies for action against green bugs in wheat fields has been changed from southern Kansas to Peabody from where more areas can be reached more easily. More than 300 orders a day for the anti-green bug parasite bees are being sent out and there seems to be progress in the battle.”
