Jayhawk golfers miss NCAA cut

KU finishes 24th at regional tournament

? The Kansas University men’s golf team finished in 24th place Saturday following the third and final round of the NCAA Central Regional tournament at Rich Harvest Farms Golf Club.

The Jayhawks shot a team score of 323 on Saturday, failing to finish in the top 10 and earn a berth in the NCAA Championship field.

“The course was playing nearly impossible today,” KU coach Ross Randall said. “All the teams really struggled today. It was really great to see our seniors finish their careers in fine fashion by birdying their last hole as Jayhawks.”

Senior Gary Woodland puts the wraps on his accomplished KU career by carding his second consecutive round of 75 to finish in a tie for 21st. Woodland recorded three victories during his senior campaign.

Senior Tyler Docking shot a final-round 80 and finished tied for 53rd. Docking’s finish marks his best result in three career NCAA Regional appearances.

Junior Joey Mundy shot an 87 in the final round to finish tied for 116th. Senior Barrett Martens shot a final-round 85 to finish in a tie for 125th. Sophomore Walt Koelbel finished in 134th after shooting a final-round 83.

Tulsa shot a 310 in the final round to edge Alabama by three strokes for the team championship. Dawie Van Der Walt of Lamar and Dan Woltman of Wisconsin tied for the individual championship with a three-round score of 215.

Oklahoma State, Texas, and Texas Tech will represent the Big 12 at the NCAA Championship after finishing in the top 10. Texas A&M tied for 10th place and lost a playoff to Minnesota for the final qualifying spot out of the NCAA Central Regional.
