Fishing report

CLINTON LAKE (updated 5-17) – Water 66 degrees and 11.81 feet above normal pool. Discharge: 3,500 cfs. Wiper fair using jigs and minnows under bobber or casting jigs. Most reports are from dam. Crappie slow using jigs 3-15 feet below surface around cover. Although not consistent, some days anglers are catching some from shore. Walleye-sauger good using jigs and nightcrawlers on the flats.

PERRY LAKE (updated 5-10) – Water 13 feet over pool. State Park ramps are unusable; Slough Creek ramps open. Channel Catfish excellent up to 10 pounds. Fish are moving shallow to feed with all the water, worms in the grass. Sauger fair up to 3 pounds. Fish are done spawning, off of the breaks near gravel with deep diving cranks or jigs. White bass fair/good up to 1.5 pounds. Work those rocky points, rip-rap, twisters or shad colored crankbaits, up the River, some are done spawning. White crappie fair up to 1.5 pounds off tube jigs or minnows in 5-8′ of water, dark colored males, few females.

DOUGLAS STATE LAKE (updated 5-17) – Repairs have been completed, but lake won’t reopen until January of 2009 in order to allow re-stocked fish to mature. Currently over 90 acres in basin.

LEAVENWORTH STATE LAKE (updated 5-17) – Water 66 degrees and clear to 41 inches. Largemouth bass fair, casting chartreuse spinnerbaits. Channel catfish fair using chicken livers and stinkbait. Crappie slow using minnows and jigs. Some crappie were still on the bank as of May 16. Bluegill fair using worms under bobber. Note: All five air lines active. Feeders are working.

LONE STAR LAKE (updated 5-17) – Largemouth bass fair using jigs and spinnerbaits. Crappie fair. Fishing is spotty. Anglers are catching some fish using minnows and jigs from the bank. Bluegill good using worms under bobber or casting jigs or small spinners.

LAKE SHAWNEE (updated 5-17) – Water 78 degrees and clear to 24 inches. Channel catfish good using chicken livers and worms. An 11-pounder reported last week. Walleye good using jigs and nightcrawlers on flat. Largemouth bass fair using crankbaits and spinnerbaits.
