Andrew Sigler received the rank of Eagle Scout during a Court of Honor on April 21 at First United Methodist Church’s West Campus in Lawrence.

Sigler is a member of Troop 55. He earned 27 merit badges and participated in camping and high adventure outings at H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation in Missouri, Camp Alexander in Colorado, the Wichita Mountains in Oklahoma, and backpacking and camping in Colorado.

He is a brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow and served the troop as a patrol leader, assistant patrol leader and quartermaster.

For his Eagle project, Sigler painted large-scale maps of the United States on the playgrounds at Sunflower and Wakarusa Valley schools.

He is a senior at Lawrence High School and the son of Jeff and Suzi Sigler.

¢ Jack Berkowitz received the rank of Eagle Scout during a Court of Honor on May 6 at the Lawrence Jewish Community Center. He is a member of Troop 52, chartered to First United Methodist Church, and Venturing Crew 2691, chartered to Lawrence Wesleyan Church.

Berkowitz began his scouting career as a Cub Scout with Pack 3051. He received all 20 Webelos badges and the Arrow of Light, the highest Cub Scout award.

He joined Boy Scout Troop 61 and later transferred to Troop 52. He earned 28 merit badges and became a brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow. He served the troop as troop guide, instructor, patrol leader, librarian and chaplain’s aide. He also was vice president of administration for his Venturing Crew.

He attended Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico and summer camps at Camp Alexander in Colorado, the H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation in Missouri, and Camp Naish in Bonner Springs. He received the Jewish religious medal both as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout, and the World Conservation Award. He has served as counselor for three summers at Rotary Camp, which serves severely disabled Scouts.

Berkowitz’s Eagle project was an oral history of the Lawrence Jewish Community Center. He is serving as assistant scoutmaster in Troop 52. His interests also include cross country, track and chorus. He plans to attend Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, beginning in the fall.

¢Troop 64, chartered to the Eudora Lions Club, attended the Pelathe District’s Spring Camporee on April 20-22 at Camp Bromelsick. The theme for the event was “high adventure,” and the boys hiked near their campsite. Hawley Montgomery, Colin Forsberg and Alex Whitten were elected to the Order of the Arrow. Other Scouts attending included Jonathan Morrison, Andrew Briery, Eric Ahlen, Simon Elwell and Nathan Gentleman. They were accompanied by adult leaders Glen Jackson, Jim Morrison, Roy Lytle, Jerry Criqui, Duane Gentleman and Greg Elwell.
