KU golf team falls to 20th at regional

? The Kansas University men’s golf team shot a 311 to drop back into a tie for 20th place after Day Two at the NCAA Central Regional on Friday at Rich Harvest Farms golf course. The Jayhawks were eighth after Thursday’s first round.

Seniors Gary Woodland and Tyler Docking both shot 75 during round two.

Woodland overcame a triple-bogey on the second hole by shooting five birdies during the day. Docking had better luck on the second hole, eagling it, and he also added two birdies during his round. Woodland is tied for 32nd, and Docking is tied for 35th entering the last round of play today.

“This wasn’t the day that we would have liked,” KU coach Ross Randall said. “The course played a lot easier today, and we were only able to improve on our score by two strokes.”

Junior Joey Mundy shot a second-round 80 and is tied for 90th place.

KU must finish in the top 10 in order to qualify for the NCAA Championship. It trails 10th-ranked Texas A&M by 17 shots entering the final round.
