A Lawrence police officer was taken Thursday night to Lawrence Memorial Hospital after being struck by a vehicle. Other officers report that he is in good condition.

Officer Sutagee Anglin had completed a call near West 24th Street and Murphy Drive, near Molly McGee's, about 9:40 p.m. when a pickup truck struck him from behind, pushing him onto the hood of his patrol car.

"He never heard anything; he never saw anything," Sgt. Mark Warren said. "All the sudden there was this big smack in the back."

A man was in handcuffs and seated in a patrol car Thursday night at the collision scene, but it was unclear whether he was taken to jail.

Warren said that as of Thursday evening the cause of the incident had not been established.

"We have no reason to believe it was anything other than an accident," he said.

The investigation was ongoing Thursday night.

Or perhaps, since the officer had just completed a call, the person handcuffed and seated in the back was from that just completed call. But hey, let's not put some thought into anything - so much easier to jump to the conclusion that a totally innocent person was handcuffed and put in the patrol car!

how would that be an accident why would the other person be backing up when they would be goin forward???? sounds kinda suspicious that its not an accident but thats just coming from a close friend.

So to be clear... We aren't blaming the victim are we? That would be stupid. Hope the officer is okay.

i demand to know right now where were these people's parents, the officer's and the drivers'.
that is where the blame lies. If they aren't hiding something, then where are they?

I am sorry an officer is hurt, it is a tough out in the street job. My best wishes to him and his family, or her, etc.
