Old Home Town – 40 years ago

The 43-year-old Phi Gamma Delta fraternity house at 1540 La. was gutted in an early morning fire and preliminary loss estimates were in excess of $500,000. Two firefighters were injured but neither seriously. There were no casualties among the fraternity members who had been routed by a 2:31 a.m. alarm. Late-studying members had noticed the smoke and had alerted all others in the house.
