Old Home Town – 100 years ago
From the Lawrence Daily World for May 17, 1907: “Several groceries here deliver to homes and many are surprised at the ‘rapid transit’ that occurs and how quickly their orders are delivered. : Thirty-six applicants, almost all from the university law school, have applied to the Supreme Court for admission to the Kansas bar. : More than 200 shipments of parasitic bees for wheat farmers combatting green bugs were made today and many more are likely through the university. There now are 15 people on staff dealing with the problem and some professors are devoting full time to helping all they can. : Some construction debris caught fire last night at the site of the new university gymnasium but prompt action, some of it by alert students, prevented any damage of note. : When any warlike students from Baker University get off the train here for the baseball game with KU, they will find a large delegation of our people, including police, waiting to establish peace and tranquility. There was considerable action and some violence before, during and after the game in Baldwin and some were hurt.”
