Two Kansas University police officers were suspended without pay for their involvement in the accidental discharge of a firearm inside a vacant courtroom at the Judicial and Law Enforcement Center. The officials had been testing and examining new holsters when the incident occurred.

Del Shankel, former acting chancellor at KU, removed his name from a list of top candidates for the chancellorship of the University of Maryland’s College Park campus. Shankel, 54, declined to elaborate on the Journal-World report, but indications were he would stay at KU at a teacher and administrator. He declined to say if he had turned down the offer for the job.
