Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for May 15, 1907: “It appears a local woman was knocked unconscious by a lightning bolt from the storm two nights ago. She was unconscious at first but now reported much better and getting back to normal. The Red Men’s Carnival Show quartered here suffered considerable damage from the wind and lightning. : People who go to the street fair here tonight will have to combat a lot of mud following the big storm of two nights ago. Unpaved regions will be messy and rubber boots are advised. : Money to combat green bugs in the wheat fields seems to be coming in now to pay for treatment and that is encouraging after the long delays in support. : A local student concocted a story of a murder he said he witnessed and indicated he was scared for his life until acquaintances recognized the bad prank for the hoax it was. : Volunteers are being sought for a cleanup of the site in Baldwin for a reconstruction of the new gymnasium building. The old site was recently destroyed by fire and every type of help, including money, is needed.”
