A LifeStar helicopter ambulance was preparing to leave a lot near the Lied Center at 1 p.m. today to fly a patient to Kansas University Hospital in Kansas City, Kan., for treatment of injuries from a vehicle accident near 19th and Iowa streets.

An emergency dispatcher said responders had indicated two patients had suffered injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

But Lawrence Douglas County Fire & Medical workers called for the helicopter for one patient. The other person was taken by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Lawrence police officers are investigating details about the accident. The dispatcher said one vehicle was reported to have sustained heavy damage.

I saw that wreck. I am surprised that both aren't being flown out. My fiancee and his family know the driver of the car that was "heavily damaged." My thoughts and prayers are with both families.
