KU rowing team 16th at regional

? Kansas University’s rowing team placed 16th of 23 teams at the NCAA South-Central Regionals on Sunday.

KU tallied 152 points and finished three places in front of in-state rival Kansas State and six points behind Texas. The novice eight boat finished eighth for KU’s best placement.

The second varsity eight boat finished 18th in a time of 7:15.78 to earn 24 points. The first varsity eight boat placed 16th in 6:51.92 to earn 72 points. The varsity eight boat trailed Texas by 2.7 seconds.

KU’s boat placed 12th in 8:14.1 in the open four competition and earned four points. KU’s varsity four boat placed 10th in 7:52.52 and earned 30 points.

The novice eight boat placed the highest for Kansas, earning eighth in 7:11.83. The boat earned 22 points.

“Across the board, I thought we raced really well,” coach Rob Catloth said. “We competed well against the top teams in the country and held our own against our level of competition, especially against the teams in our Big 12 region. The novice eight finish is exciting and should be a great place to build for next year.”

Overall, KU placed ninth of the Central regional teams.
