Art therapist conducts workshop

Libby Schmanke, a board-certified art therapist, welcomed 20 art therapists from Kansas and surrounding states last month for a pre-conference workshop of the Kansas Art Therapy Association annual symposium.

Schmanke’s workshop introduced options for creating artful books, which can be used therapeutically or as a pure art form. A variety of forms and techniques were explored, including autobiographical journals, altered books and inspiration logs.

Schmanke also attended the conference, conducted at the Lawrence Holidome. She attended training sessions that involved designing art therapy retreats for businesses.

Schmanke offers a weekly drop-in artmaking group, during which artful books may be explored. Her private practice and studio, Art & Insight, is at 4824 Quail Crest Place. For more information, call 840-5280.
