‘Mayhem’ delves into war in Iraq

“Special Investigations Unit: Month of Mayhem” (7 p.m. today, CNN) offers a first-person account of the war in Iraq from correspondent Michael Holmes.

“Mayhem” follows Holmes with American troops and in Iraqi markets and takes place in and out of the “Green Zone.” In 2004, Holmes survived an ambush on his convoy, a skirmish that left two CNN staffers dead and one wounded.

Careful “Heaven” fans will recall that the show seemed to have been canceled at the end of last season but returned to the schedule of the CW network, a combination of the WB and UPN.

But now it seems to be over. Or is it? In tonight’s episode, Annie (Catherine Hicks) and Eric (Stephen Collins) decide to celebrate his clean bill of health by embarking on a cross-country tour in an RV. But they’re not going alone. Lucy and Kevin and members of their extended family join them in the long, long trailer. Now if this doesn’t sound like an idea for a spin-off, what does?

Indeed, if the notion of an extended family on an extended road trip across America sounds familiar, it is. That was the plot to “Promised Land,” a CBS family drama from 1996 to 1999 starring Gerald McRaney (“Jericho”).
