David Shulenburger, Washington, D.C., received the Clarence L. Pugh Sr. Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Lenoir-Rhyne College Alumni Association in Hickory, N.C. The award honored Shulenburger’s career in higher education. Shulenburger graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne in 1967 and is a former provost and executive vice chancellor at Kansas University. He now serves as vice president for academic affairs at the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges in Washington, D.C.

¢Joseph and Jamie White, De Soto, announce the birth of a daughter, Alyssa Lyn White, born April 25, 2007, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. She weighed 7 pounds, 13 ounces and was 19 1/2 inches long. Grandparents are Bill and Pam Frenzel, Eudora; Dan and Lisa White and Karla White, all of Linwood; and Geraldine Reed, De Soto. Alyssa’s great-grandparents are Doris Rhodes and George and Jeanette Frenzel, all of St. Louis; Benny and Ruby Brown, Linwood; and Juanita Martinez, De Soto.

¢Trent and Christy Miller, Eudora, announce the birth of a daughter, Lindsey Catherine Miller, born March 24, 2007, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. She weighed 7 pounds, 2 ounces and was 19 1/2 inches long. She has a brother, Hayden, 5.

Grandparents are Chuck and Day Lane, Lenexa; and Peggy Miller, Oskaloosa. Great-grandparents are Ralph and Joann Acker, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Carroll Fiscus, Stafford; Bill and Barbara Joiner, Lenexa; and Bertha Wise, Lawrence.

¢Heather Harrison, Law-rence, and Kyla Lewis, Baldwin City, were named Shepherd Scholars at Emporia State University. The program rewards up to 15 juniors each year with a $1,200 scholarship for their senior years. To be eligible, students must have a minimum 3.5 grade-point average. Both students are studying elementary education.

¢Michaela Safford, Lawrence, has been chosen as a state finalist in the National American Miss Kansas Pageant to be conducted Aug. 10-11 in Wichita. Michaela, 4, plans to participate in the Miss Kansas Princess Pageant, which is for girls ages 4-6. She is the daughter of Brenda O’Keefe, Lawrence.

¢Several area students had roles in Kansas University’s recent production of “Guys and Dolls.” They include Pearson Skepnek, David Stogsdill and Christopher Trepinski, all of Lawrence; and Lucas Walker, De Soto.

¢Brianna Brown, Overbrook, and Ashley Lorenzo, Winchester, were named to the Dean’s Honor Roll for grades achieved during the fall 2006 semester at Garden City Community College. Students named to the honor roll earned a grade-point average between 3.2 and 3.999.
