From the Lawrence Daily World for May 11, 1907: "All next week in Central Park the Redmen Carnival will be conducted. The show put on by the local Redmen group will consist of 11 big pay attractions and three features. : Two local police have resigned and it could be because they do not like the new chief named by mayor George Barker. : Prof. George Kay is leaving the University of Kansas as assistant in the geology department to accept a place as professor of mineralogy and economic geology with the University of Iowa. He is highly regarded and this amounts to a notable promotion. : A local battle of boys after school the other day forced the local police to intervene. It appears some of the trouble was racial in nature. : Only one Kansas man was able to have a textbook accepted by the state book commission. George D. Rathbun of Ottawa created a spelling book that was approved."
