Latest figures showed that even though Lawrence area natural gas users had cut back on their consumption of the commodity the past winter, they still had paid more for fuel because of general price hikes.

The Lawrence school board authorized the district’s food service department to bid on a contract with the Douglas County Council on Aging to provide meals for senior citizens. However, there was some disagreement over whether the district should get into a position where it might be competing with local private businesses. Charles Oldfather and Lorraine Michel dissented in the 4-2 vote.
