Car to be given away at graduation party

Area graduating high school students will have a chance to win a car and several other prizes as part of Lawrence’s annual Project Graduation event.

The post-graduation party – sponsored by area parents and businesses as a way to provide a safe place for students to celebrate – will begin at 10 p.m. May 27 at Abe & Jake’s Landing, 8 E. Sixth St.

Lawrence’s Laird Noller Automotive is donating a 1999 Mazda 626 that will be given away at the event. Other prizes include cash, scholarships, iPods, computers, a camera and a dorm television.

There also will be several activities, including a casino, a mechanical bull, a cash cage, NASCAR racing games, a prize wheel, karaoke, and food and beverages.

Tickets for the event are $5. They will be on sale during the lunch periods at Lawrence High, Free State High, Bishop Seabury Academy and Veritas Christian School on May 14-16. Tickets also will be available at each school’s graduation practice. Tickets also can be purchased at the event.
