Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for May 9, 1907: “A number of people here are favorable toward a suggested 80-foot-wide boulevard from Kansas City to Lawrence, as proposed by Dr. Simeon Bell who made it possible for KU to have a Rosedale medical school. Some fear Lawrence’s becoming a suburb but others say the community would benefit greatly from such a ‘trade route.’ : There is concern that medical and personal insurance for women is far more costly than for men. Why do insurance companies discriminate against the gentle sex? . . . The trial of John Lewis for the murder of Houston McNees began in district court this morning. Large crowds are likely.”
