Summer hours for backcountry hiking trails at the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve have resumed.

Visitors can access the preserve’s three backcountry hiking trails between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. through Oct. 28. Permits are required and may be obtained at no cost at the park or by calling (620) 273-8494 up to four weeks in advance.

The preserve is about 18 miles west of Emporia.
