Douglas County Family and Community Education, in cooperation with K-State Research and Extension’s Family and Consumer Sciences, is offering the program “Where in the World Is Turku?” The group will hear a presentation on the 25th triennial for the Associated Country Women of the World, set for June in Turku, Finland. The event is set for 9:30 a.m. Friday in Deal Six Auditorium at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds, 2110 Harper St. The free program is open to the public. Registration is requested by calling 843-7058.
¢The Meadowlark 4-H Club met April 10 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds. Will Pendleton, president, called the meeting to order. Members answered roll call by naming their favorite flower. Shelby Miller read the minutes from the last meeting, and they were approved and signed. Lewis Hamel gave the treasurer’s report. The deadline for re-enrollment forms to be turned in was announced. Under unfinished business, Shelby pointed out that the concession stand was not able to open because of the weather.
In new business, the club approved working at the concession stand Sept. 22 and 23. Craig Schultz, a former 4-H member, gave a presentation on the rocketry program.
The next meeting is set for Tuesday at the Pendletons’ farm. T.K. Pracht said the club pledge and motto, and the meeting was adjourned.
¢The Clinton Eagles 4-H Club conducted its monthly meeting April 23 at Wakarusa Valley Elementary School. Kirstyn Heine, vice president, called the meeting to order. Members answered roll call by naming their favorite movie. Song leaders Jared Fangman and Connor Shuck led members in singing “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.” Delaney Dieker, secretary, read the minutes of the last meeting, and they were approved. Dustin Hoyt gave the treasurer’s report. Morgan Manger, reporter, said that her report had been sent to the Lawrence Journal-World.
Recreation leader Maria Penrod said members would play the “disability walk” after the meeting in the school gym. Community leader Lanaea Heine reported that she had received fair books for each family in the club, and that members should sign up to bring items for chemotherapy care kits that the club is making for patients at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Club T-shirts were distributed. The club is beginning to collect donations to purchase another animal at the fair auction this year. Tessa Lieber, vice president, initiated three new members, and Tiffany Robins gave a program on latch-hooking.
The next meeting is set for May 21 at Wakarusa Valley Elementary School.
