Old Home Town – 25 years ago
In the days remaining for the May 11 election here, committees representing all the factions were making last-minute pushes. At issue were the added 50-cent floodplain planning fee on water bills and the recall effort against City Commissioner Tom Gleason who had pushed for the removal of City Manager Buford Watson.
A Kansas City, Mo., company that allegedly misused two powerful herbicides while spraying weeds in North Lawrence was charged with endangering public safety. The spraying had been done along the Union Pacific Railroad tracks here. Penalties were to be set later.
