From the Lawrence Daily World for May 2, 1907: “William Allen White, the Emporia editor, is out of the race for governor by his own declaration and attorney general Fred Jackson seems likely to fill that vacancy in the coming race. : University chancellor Frank Strong has endorsed the Lawrence effort to help Baker University pay for replacement of its burned gymnasium and asks university people to help. It is hoped this effort will help abolish some of the bad feelings that have arisen in recent times between the two Douglas County schools.”
