Kansas softball heads to Wichita State today

? Tracy Bunge hopes her Kansas University softball team is repeating history.

“The last two years we’ve been a club that has come on late in the year,” Bunge said.

Winners of five of their last six games, the Jayhawks (32-19-1) will tangle with Wichita State in a doubleheader today. Game time is 5 p.m. on the WSU campus.

After today, Kansas will play two games at Iowa State, the Big 12 Conference cellar-dweller, this weekend.

“This week won’t be a cakewalk,” Bunge said. “Wichita State has really improved, and Iowa State has been playing a lot better. We need to take care of business.”

Kansas, currently in seventh place in the Big 12 standings, will be hoping to climb to the No. 6 spot so the Jayhawks won’t be forced into a play-in game in next week’s conference tournament in Oklahoma City.
