Low sales tax revenues may spur budget cuts

City commissioners agreed that City Manager David Corliss should begin looking at the possibility of trimming the city’s 2007 budget.

Commissioners came to the consensus after receiving a report detailing that sales tax revenues through the first quarter of 2007 have been less than expected.

Commission receives report from ECO2

Commissioners received a report from ECO2, a city-county committee that has been working to create a plan that would encourage the development of industrial space while also preserving important pieces of open space in the county.

Commissioners were generally supportive of the ECO2 plan, which doesn’t include a firm recommendation on how to fund the industrial space and open space projects.

But commissioners did not give final approval to the plan. Instead, they scheduled that issue for their May 8 meeting.

Douglas County commissioners are expected to receive the report at their meeting tonight.
