It’s sprung

Be sure not to miss some of the most colorful springtime displays we have ever enjoyed around here.

It makes no difference if your calendar coincides with what has been happening in our great outdoors. Seize the moment and enjoy.

Spring has sprung and has provided those of us in the Lawrence area another glorious display of landscape finery ranging from the bright yellows and golds of the forsythia and jonquils to the rich hues of the redbuds and the gleaming whites of the Bradford pear trees and their relatives. There have been tulip tree outbursts that some veteran observers contend are “as wonderful as I’ve ever seen.” Other treats such as quince bushes manage to insert their particular brands of delightful color. Tulips of all sorts are starting to add their charm.

Some are fearful that all this has been happening too soon, since the latest known freeze in our community has been recorded around April 20. All the more reason, then, not to wait to relish and savor this terrific springtime ensemble of color and foliage.

If you haven’t been out much of late and have failed to visually drink in this tremendous serving from Mother Nature, don’t waste any more time. If later cold weather doesn’t nip a lot of things in the bud, maturation will, and too many of the blossoms, flowers and foliage will be gone. Nothing wrong with the various shades of green that will follow, but in fairness, they are not the equivalent of the various offerings we have right now.

Don’t miss it, this incredible springtime display. Not long ago, we were complaining about the cold and worrying about dealing with ice and snow. Before too long, we may get daily onslaughts of heat and humidity, the latter hopefully created by badly needed rain in the right places at the right time. So the time is now.

What a welcome relief all this can be from the everyday cares and woes. It’s just glorious, and we need to be reminded just how colorful and invigorating a spring like this can be for our region.
