Pearl Hadl, Eudora, will celebrate her 90th birthday with a gathering of friends and family from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Eudora Nursing Center, 1415 Maple St. No gifts, please.

¢The family of Peggy Bartlett, Lawrence, will host an open house celebrating her 80th birthday from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 7 at the Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 W. 27th St. Bartlett, the former Peggy Elston, grew up in Lawrence and retired from the Lawrence High School food service department.

¢Chris and Kelly Turner, Wichita, announce the birth of their son, Travis Brenton Turner, born March 19, 2007, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center in Wichita. He joins brothers Jacob, 7, and Carson, 2. Maternal grandparents are Leon and Christine Winters, Lawrence. Paternal grandmother is Linda Turner, Baldwin City. Great-grandparents are Earl and Alietha Beckman, Lawrence, and Ruel and Marge Rousselo, Gardner.

¢Several area students were named to the dean’s honor roll for the fall 2006 semester at Wichita State University. They include Stephanie H. Jarvis, Baldwin City; Kaleb G. Niedens, Eudora; Melissa A. Kramer, Matthew S. Pelsma, Larissa F. Seay and Frank P. Wiesner, all of Lawrence; Leigh K. Morris and Rachel A. Simmons, both of Ottawa; and Samantha M. Livingston, Wellsville.

¢Aaron Lewis, Baldwin City, and Julia Thomas, Lawrence, received graduation honors from Kansas State University in December. Lewis graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering. Thomas graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in family studies and human services. Magna cum laude is awarded with an academic average of 3.85 to 3.949, and cum laude with 3.75-3.849.

¢Megan Barfield, Lawrence, won the talent portion of the Kansas Junior Miss Pageant recently in Belleville. She performed “Rumba Toccata” on the piano and received a $250 scholarship. She is a home-schooled senior and the daughter of David and Cathy Barfield.
