Cesar Millan ‘crosses over’ to CBS show

If television is any guide, Americans love dogs and ghosts, roughly in that order. Cable network cooperation rises from a whisper to a scream in a first-ever crossover between “The Ghost Whisperer” (7 p.m., CBS) and “The Dog Whisperer.”

In tonight’s otherworldly episode, Melinda (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Jim become foster parents to a teen beset by a troublesome spirit. Who ya gonna call?

Cesar Millan of “Dog Whisperer” fame guest stars as himself. Can he demonstrate his New Age tough love to a poltergeist pooch? Just how do you become the pack leader to a dead dog?

After his assignment on the spectral plane is completed, Millan returns for the season finale of “Dog Whisperer” (8 p.m., National Geographic). He crosses over – not to the afterlife but south of the border to Mexico to discuss that nation’s overwhelming population of stray dogs.

¢ In other ghost-starring news, “Roseanne” regular Laurie Metcalf appears on “Raines” (8 p.m., NBC), now on its regular night and time. Metcalf plays the spirit of a homeless woman who helps Raines piece together evidence to solve her murder. Fans of “Raines” star Jeff Goldblum can watch him save the world in the 1996 thriller “Independence Day” (7 p.m., Family).

¢ Even cartoons get into the morbidity act with “Billy & Mandy’s Big Boogey Adventure” (6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Cartoon Network). This marks the feature-length adaptation of “The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy,” a long-running cartoon about the Grim Reaper’s improbable friendship with two smart-aleck children.

In “Boogey,” the friendly Grim is stripped of his job by the Underworld due to his childish hijinks. His replacement, the Boogey Man, goes about making up for lost time in the fright department.

¢ Last week, British pop singer Lulu appeared on “American Idol” to coach the aspirants through British Invasion Week. She also performed her signature song, the title tune from the 1967 British drama “To Sir, With Love” (7 p.m., TCM), starring Sidney Poitier as a West Indian immigrant who teaches rowdy white London slum students in the ways of the world and takes them “from crayons to perfume.”

¢ On five repeats of “Heroes” (Sci Fi), Mohinder’s father arrives in New York (6 p.m.), Texas tragedy (7 p.m.), Hiro and villains (8 p.m.), George Takei stars as Hiro’s father (9 p.m.), HRG held hostage (10 p.m.).
