Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for March 29, 1907: “There are number of amusing stories about people who feared that a comet, as some predicted, would hit the earth yesterday and destroy it. Among superstitious people, there was tremendous excitement and fear while others enjoyed laughing at their grave concern. : The ground near Lecompton was covered with hailstones last night and some said it looked like a winter blizzard for a while because of the heavy accumulation. : The latest census report shows that the United States population now stands at 82,574,195, representing a five-year gain of 8.7 percent.”
