Senate OKs 4 percent raise for employees

The Senate approved 4 percent pay raises for state employees Tuesday.

Senators approved the increase on a 29-11 vote, which would add more than $86 million to the state budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1.

The House already has approved an alternative, costing the same amount but distributing the dollars much differently.

The final outcome of pay raises will be worked out by House and Senate negotiators as part of the $12.2 billion budget.
