Good listener

To the editor:

U.S. Rep. Nancy Boyda listens and voted for the House bill on emergency appropriations that passed on March 23. The bill holds Iraq accountable for meeting the deadlines that President Bush set in his State of the Union speech. However, they were impotent deadlines without consequences. This bill also honors the wishes of the American people to end this ill-conceived, unending war. President Bush said he will veto it.

Rep. Boyda listens and voted for this bill, which also gives critical funding for veterans, military health care, agriculture disaster relief, health care for low-income children and BRAC projects for Kansas military bases. The last Congress, shamefully, refused to pass a budget that adequately funded these important affairs. President Bush calls these affairs “pork.”

Rep. Boyda listens, and her votes are evidence that she hears what the people are saying. President Bush listens to no one and says that Democrats, with their votes for this bill, are trying to score political points against the administration. If President Bush and his administration were listening to the American people, this bill would not have been necessary.

Thanks to Nancy Boyda for listening and solidifying our trust in her.
