Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for March 27, 1907: “Our town seemingly has lost in its bid for the Kelley Implement Factory. It apparently is not enough of a manufacturing town to attract such a firm without special costly inducements which our people are not willing to offer. So Lawrence remains first and foremost an educational town, with the university, and that ‘industry’ will likely continue to overshadow everything else. We have an enviable reputation in the field of education. : The work on the YMCA athletic field is progressing nicely and many improvements have been made to provide a good playing area for young men and boys the coming summer.”
