Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for March 23, 1907: “An art exhibit in the university natural history building in April will be one of the finest ever presented here and will feature a good deal of work by our many outstanding artists such as Mrs. J.H. Canfield and Cora Parker. : Investors tell us that many people are living here to acquire land in rural areas and find homes in Lawrence. Recent weeks have been busy ones for people such as those at the Hosford Investment Co. They have had many new customers of late and reportedly have dealt with them quite well. Our growth is assured. : There will be dearth of lilies here for Easter since florists say that for some reason their 1907 crops were hit by some disease that wiped out most of them. Other flowers will have to do, they say. : The Barteldes touring car arrived here yesterday from Kansas City and the Stoddard-Dayton has attracted appreciative crowds wherever it has gone. It is regarded as one of the finest autos to be found in the west so the local curiosity is understandable.”
