Roadway consultant on commission agenda

The Douglas County Commission tonight will discuss hiring a consultant to study future roadway corridors between U.S. Highway 59 and Kansas Highway 10 east of Lawrence.

A few months ago commissioners directed Keith Browning, county engineer, to prepare a request for proposals for a consultant study of the corridors.

The cost could be substantial, Browning said in a memo to commissioners. He noted that a study of 31st Street a few years ago by the city cost $100,000. This study could cost twice as much.

Commissioners also will consider approving an agreement for engineering services for benefit district improvements to North 600 Road between Douglas County Road 1055 and East 1750 Road.

The meeting starts at 6:35 p.m. in the Douglas County Courthouse, 1100 Mass.
