NIU hires former Buff coach Patton

Huskies fired Judson last month after seven-win season

? Northern Illinois University has picked former Colorado coach Ricardo Patton to be the school’s new men’s basketball coach.

School officials announced Patton’s hiring at a Monday morning news conference in Chicago, which was followed by an afternoon news conference in the school’s hometown of DeKalb.

Patton replaces Rob Judson, who was fired earlier this month after his team finished the season with a 7-23 record. Judson had a career record of 74-101 with the Huskies.

Patton took Colorado to six postseason berths, twice going to the NCAA Tournament. The 48-year-old finished his tenure as the second-winningest coach in Colorado history.

Patton will be the 26th coach of NIU’s men’s basketball program.
