Lawrence voters were to decide within three months whether City Commissioner Tom Gleason would remain on the job. County Clerk Patty Jaimes said petitions calling for Gleason’s ouster contained enough valid signatures to force a recall election. Two former mayors, Fred Pence and Ed Carter, had set the recall effort in motion after Gleason unsuccessfully sought to oust the city manager.
