Can’t-miss bracket tips
A&M could go deep
Five things to consider as you fill out your brackets
1. At least two No. 12 seeds have won first-round games in each of the last six years. In order, here are the best chances: Old Dominion (over Butler), Long Beach State (over Tennessee), Arkansas (over USC), Illinois (over Virginia Tech).
2. Pick Memphis at your own risk. The Tigers had a relatively soft non-conference schedule and their own league, Conference USA, was mediocre at best. If they beat Nevada in the second round, it’ll arguably be their best win of the season.
3. Love Texas A&M to make a deep run. Nobody has been more clutch than Aggies guard Acie Law IV. If they meet up with Ohio State, it’ll be in San Antonio, which is a mere 150 miles away from A&M’s campus.
4. The first No. 1 seed to lose: North Carolina. Kevin Durant and Texas are looming in the Sweet 16.
5. How a team fares in its conference tournament has not been an indicator of the eventual national champ. In the last five years, the national champ has won its conference tournament twice and been knocked out in the second round three times.
