K.C.’s Gordon hurting

? Kansas City Royals third baseman Alex Gordon, a touted prospect the team hopes to build around, will be sidelined for a few games because of a sore shoulder.

Royals manager Buddy Bell said Gordon apparently hurt his shoulder diving for a ball against the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night.

Bell said Gordon, last season’s minor-league player of the year, probably would have an MRI, but the problem did not appear serious.

“He doesn’t really know when he did it. He just woke up this morning, and it was stiff,” Bell said Saturday. “We’re going to shut him down for a couple of days.”

Also on Friday night, right-hander Leo Nunez sustained a hairline fracture above his right wrist when he was struck by a batted ball. Bell said a splint had been applied, and the arm would probably be put in a cast.

“As far as a timeframe, it’s hard to tell,” Bell said. “I guess they’ll know more in a week to 10 days when the swelling goes down. But there’s no displacement, which is good.”

Bell also said that reliever Joe Nelson, as expected, would have surgery on his injured right shoulder within the next week.
