Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for March 10, 1907: “People are advised not to leave articles in carriages because of a large amount of activity by thieves when the carriage owners and operators are not around. Anything of value is at risk and people should not leave items in untended vehicles. : Lawrence people took up a collection of more than $200 last week to send to people in China suffering from famine. : Before galleries packed with boy and girl lobbyists, the Kansas Senate today passed the House-approved bill making it a misdemeanor for any student in high schools in the state to belong to a fraternity society. The final vote was 21-8. In Lawrence High there are four high school Greek letter societies listed: the Owls and Sigma Psi sororities, and the Phi Sigma Chi and Delta Omicron Omicron fraternities.”
