Old Hometown – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for March 6, 1907: “Most of the major appropriations bills are now through the legislature and there continues to be delight that Kansas University will get more than $750,000 to meet its many needs. : Ten days of dry, warm and unseasonable weather have resulted in a lot of dust which has settled on fruit tree buds and could injure the yields. There is concern that too many ripenings will occur too early and be hurt by sudden turns back to cold weather. : An old newspaper brought to the World relates the Jan. 21, 1870, opening of Liberty Hall, which we now know as the opera house. The article indicates it was one of the most gorgeous structures ever seen around here. “
