Kansas Power and Light announced a bonus plan for customers who installed energy-saving devices such as efficient air-conditioners and electric heat pumps.

A hard-hitting winter storm had spared the Lawrence area from its worst effects but left much of the Midwest floundering in as much as 10 inches of snow. Jefferson County had taken the heaviest wallop from the storm in this region, with more than 2 inches of snow on the ground. Lawrence got only about two-tenths of an inch.
