Lawrence native Mumford sticks as assistant Army coach
Defensive coordinator John Mumford, a Lawrence native, is one of nine staffers who have been retained by new Army head football coach Stan Brock.
When Bobby Ross retired in January, Brock was elevated to head coach after serving three years as the Black Knights’ offensive line coach.
Mumford, 49, was named Army’s defensive coordinator when Ross took over after the 2003 season. He had been defensive line coach since 2000.
Mumford had also served as interim head coach for the final seven games of the 2003 season.
Mumford began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Kansas University.
