Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for March 1, 1907: “Republican primaries for nominating candidates for the forthcoming city election will be March 15. Polls will be open from 2 to 7 p.m. : James McAuliff, the barber convicted last week of wounding Frank Juett, a railroad contractor under circumstances that could have led to manslaughter in the fourth degree, has been given the minimum sentence of six months in the county jail. Judge Smart bemoaned the cheapening of life in some minds : Every day it appears likelier that the legislature will adjourn without passing some important bills. This could force Gov. Hoch to call a special session to get business done.”
